School Field Trips to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum

To the Floridian parents, educators, and students anxious to rid yourselves of summer boredom– you can finally take a breath. Your next school field trip is already set. Situated in the heart of the Everglades, the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum effortlessly blends nature and civilization through various exhibits, programs, tours, and a scenic, mile-long boardwalk. Over 180,000 artifacts and bountiful flora and fauna make for the ideal location to push past day-to-day boundaries and engage in Seminole culture.

Museum Features

Too often we find ourselves drained by the same routine. The truth is, learning can be both fun and informative, without having to take sides. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum has a number of outside features that keep visitors captivated and connected with nature. Taking selfies at the cypress dome, learning about clans at the pavilion, and buying crafts at the Seminole village are just a few of the ways in which entertainment and the outdoors blend here. What better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon than having a conversation with a Seminole artist or trying to see a live panther? Coming face-to-face with nature can be rare to find and hard to beat; we’re happy to provide you with the space to experience it.

Seminole Civilization

Integral to the Seminole people is a history of determination, strength, and perseverance. After enduring years of disease, warfare, enslavement and forced migration, the Native American people were able to flee and prosper from the swampy Everglades as Seminoles. All five exhibits of the museum are used to share part of the Seminole story, from life in the 1890’s to the exploration of contemporary Seminole life. Keeping future generations educated about the Native American journey can help preserve the Everglades, influence core values, and bridge the gap between two cultures– one sharp mind at a time.

Education Meets Amusement

An emphasis on fun education is part of what makes the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum so special. Making sure not to surpass field trip leisure with classroom academia, the Education Division works to adjust educational resources and curricula for maximum amounts of amusement. Crafts, games, and even carefully chosen exhibits can be specifically tailored towards the needs of a field trip group. Furthermore, taking the time to partake in these activities creates exciting and memorable experiences.

Billie Swamp Safari for Extended Fun

Bringing you even closer to the culture, the museum is suitably located on an Indian reservation. In fact, Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation not only boasts the unique AhTah-Thi-Ki Museum, it’s also home to the celebrated Billie Swamp Safari. After spending time at the museum, attendees can hop over to experience the interactive live Critter Shows, long-beloved Airboat Rides, and award-winning Swamp Buggy Eco Tours.
